Tea with Mr. Darcy

White soup at the Netherfield ball, hot-house fruit at Pemberley, humbler fare at Longbourne – the food served at social occasions in Jane Austen’s ‘Pride and Prejudice’ is revealing not only of social history but of character. We may not be able to offer Colin Firth in a wet shirt, but with Mr Darcy as our guide and food as our focus this should be a lively day school with Judith Hedley.
