Scunthorpe Samaritans

Barton Civic Society’s annual programme of talks continues with a talk about the Scunthorpe Samaritans.  The Samaritans was founded in 1953 by Bartonian Chad Varah who described the service then as “just a man willing to listen, with a base and an emergency telephone’.  The organisation now has more than 20,000 volunteers across some two hundred branches, answering a call for help every six seconds from people who are going through a difficult time.  David Wildman from the Scunthorpe branch describes the work of Samaritans now and in the past.

The talks starts at 7.30pm and takes place at the Wilderspin National School Museum in the Joseph Wright Hall (ground floor), Queen Street [DN18 5QP].  There is car parking and facilities for disabled visitors.

For up to date information visit: www.bartoncivicsociety.co.uk   Admission for Civic Society members is free.  Non-members £2.

Baysgarth Park

Barton Civic Society’s annual programme of talks continues after its AGM at 7.30pm with a talk about recent developments at the Park.

Baysgarth Park was gifted to the people of Barton by Mrs. Thomas Ramsden in 1930.  North Lincolnshire Council took ownership in 1996.  Thanks to the efforts of the local community, in partnership with the Council, the Park now has a Green Flag Award recognising it as one of the UK’s very best green spaces, beautifully maintained and with excellent facilities.

This talk takes place after the AGM (7.30pm) and should start around 8.15pm – arrive for 8pm.

It is at the Wilderspin National School Museum in the Joseph Wright Hall (ground floor), Queen Street [DN18 5QP].  There is car parking and facilities for disabled visitors.

For up to date information visit: www.bartoncivicsociety.co.uk   Admission for Civic Society members is free.  Non-members £2.
